Italian WinesAs a result of clever marketing by a certain nation, when the world thinks of wine, names such as Burgundy and Champagne tend to spring to mind. Italy has been producing wines for many years and its quality easily matches, if not exceeds that of French wines.

Perhaps you run a luxury food outlet or restaurant in Bejing or Singapore and are looking for some fresh and new wines to offer your customers or to liven up your wine menu. If this is the case, then you really should take a closer look at Italy’s wines.

Each region in Italy produces wines, most of which is excellent. Do not restrict your choice to Barolo or Montepuliciano – the great Tuscan reds, take a closer look at the wines from other regions. Abruzzo produces some excellent wines, like the Talamonti Kudos wine and it’s award winning Moda, then there is the Fontefico winery which makes a lovely red called Titinge.

The wines from Abruzzo are merely the tip of the iceberg and there are many more fine wines in Italy waiting to be discovered. Sicily once produced the “musto” or grape juice which was used by other regions in Italy to make wine. Nowadays, Sicily is producing appealing wines such as Nero d’Avola, and many others, such as the specialist Marsala dessert wines.

As well as reds and its extremely drinkable whites, Italy also does its own champagne equivalents, such as Prosecco, Franciacorta and Spumante. Not everyone loves champagne and some would love to find a sparkling wine which tastes as good as it looks. Italian prosecco makes superb alternative to champagne, and sales of this Italian sparkling wine have overtaken those of its French competitor.

How about gaining a competitive advantage over your rivals by stocking Italian wines? Neither you, nor your customers will regret it, I assure you.

Cin cin, as we say in Italy!
